Example of cellulite on the upper anterior thigh
What is cellulite?
Cellulite is a condition in which the skin has a dimpled and or lumpy appearance. It is a result of fat deposits pushing through the connective tissue beneath the skin and generally affects the hips, buttocks and thighs but may occur in other areas of the body.
More about cellulite
It is far more common in women than in men because of differences in the way fat cells, muscle, and connective tissue are distributed and recent research has indicated that over 90% of woman will, at some stage in their life, be affected by cellulite.
Can it be treated?
A recent study in to the effectiveness of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) for the treatment of cellulite concluded that:
focused shockwave therapy, or
radial shockwave therapy, or
combination of both modalities
can be effective in the treatment of cellulite.
